MIRRORED FORCE RESONANCE MANUFACTURE EDITION BLUE
A watch of arresting aesthetics and exceptional technical sophistication, the Mirrored Force Resonance Manufacture Edition Blue by independent Swiss watch manufacturer Armin Strom is a showcase for the brand's unique, contemporary design language, and the captivating three dimensional animation of its two symmetrically mirrored regulators, and the pulsing Resonance Clutch Spring which bonds them into a constant and harmonious rhythm, as they rotate in opposite directions.
One of the most technically challenging pursuits in the field of haute horlogerie, the phenomenon of resonance is an elusive grail which has been harnessed by only a handful of watchmakers since it was first observed by 17th century visionary astronomer, mathematician and inventor Christiaan Huygens. Taking this concept into the 21st century, Armin Strom's Master Watchmaker Claude Griesler has studied its complexities in a new light, and through his patented Resonance Clutch Spring has reimagined the principles of resonance, with a solution which is not only more resistant to shocks or vibrations than standard mechanical movements, but which achieves its resonant state faster and maintains it for much longer than any previous resonance mechanism.
Measuring 43mm in diameter and 11.55mm in height, with subtle design enhancements such as the refined signature lip at the six o'clock and trimmer, angular lugs, the stylish stainless steel case of the Mirrored Force Resonance Manufacture Edition evokes a more elegant and refined aesthetic than previous Armin Strom models, while a pronounced box-style sapphire crystal adds depth to the view of the dial-side panorama.
To the right of the display, the hours and minutes are indicated on an off-centre dial in dark blue, which features a fine granular grenage finish at its centre, contrasting with the circular brushed chapter ring, upon which the steel baton hour indices are applied, complementing the matte tone of the skeletonised hands. Of course the main dial-side attraction is the constant motion of the Resonance Clutch Spring which pulses between the two mirrored regulating organs. These in turn drive the two small seconds pointers above, their open worked displays intersecting with the main dial, where their three-handed pointers rotate in opposing directions.
Finished to the exacting standards of haute horlogerie, the visually striking dial side architecture is matched by the view of the in-house Armin Strom Manufacture ARF21 manual winding calibre through the sapphire crystal caseback. Enhancing the arrangement, the calibre blends avant-garde watchmaking with vintage inspiration, evident on the pocket-watch style ratchet wheels and pawls which also add a pleasurable aspect to the winding experience and also through the beautifully engraved scripting on the darkened mainplate, while its twin barrels release the energy for the movement over 48 hours, as it beats at 25,200 vph.
A compelling proposition for collectors seeking a modernist masterpiece of form and function, with its complex mechanical arrangement and beautiful craftsmanship, it is a testament to Armin Strom's commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation in the world of contemporary watchmaking.
